To the Naughty Corner!

First up we admit this whole Uni Times voucher issue has been a massive debacle.  Big time.

For that we apologise.  Now we'd like to make things better.

As we've done for the last few years, our intention was to give Uni students a quality offer in their first few weeks back by cutting out a 2 for 1 voucher and bringing it into us. But with the voucher going viral this has led to a lot of people innocently receiving an electronic version and trying to redeem it. This wasn't part of the plan. And we're sorry that you and our staff have been caught up in it.

As a small business, we didn't think our staff & local suppliers would be able to cope with such huge numbers of vouchers coming through and we didn't want to give you a bad Grill'd experience. But we should have bitten the bullet and given it our best shot.

You've since spoken loudly & clearly.

You want us to buck up and honour the voucher.  So from now on that's what we'll do - at any Grill'd restaurant until 15th March, 2010. All day, every day. Please bring in a physical copy of the printed voucher or the original cut-out from the newspaper.

We're not a big chain, so we can't just 'turn on' an offer like this.  As we speak we're stocking the storeroom and herding the cows. We hope you'll appreciate that our restaurants might be a tad busy over the next couple of weeks. We'll be trying our hardest to still deliver the same burger and customer experience that you've come to expect from us.

Time to get out of the naughty corner and behind the Grill!

O Week - Uni Student 2 for 1 Offer

Here at Grill'd we run special offers from time to time, but usually they don't create as much noise as this one (with the exception of Movember, which is always huge).
This week, as an 'O Week' promotion for Uni Students in Victoria, we ran a 2 for 1 offer in the Uni Times newspaper (the printed version only). The idea was that students would cut it out and bring it into Grill'd for their 2 for 1 burgers until March 15th. There are 36,000 copies of the Uni Times newspaper floating around Victoria – so we weren’t trying to be cheap.
Unfortunately the offer, which was only meant for Uni Students, made its way on to the internet and has done the rounds on email.
If you've innocently received this offer via email from a friend and tried to redeem it, we are truly sorry.
The voucher in the printed version of the newspaper is still valid (contrary to some reports, it hasn't been 'pulled'), so grab a copy of Uni Times and bring it in.
We've well and truly heard all of your feedback and we're genuinely sorry for any confusion or embarrassment that we may have caused. We're always keen to hear from our customers and we appreciate your feedback whether it be good or bad. We hope we can make it up to you.

Uni Times 2 for 1 Voucher Offer

UPDATE - 2 for 1 Uni Times Voucher (either original or print out) is now being honoured at all Grill'd locations until March 15 2010 - See this post for more info: http://www.grilld.com.au/section/blog/328/

We've been inundated recently with people trying to redeem a 2 for 1 burger offer that has been doing the rounds via email. The 2 for 1 burger offer originated from the current print edition of the Uni Times Magazine (a magazine for Victorian Uni Students) and we only ever expected for this voucher to be available for readers of the print publication, and not available online.

The Uni Times 2 for 1 offer was intended to be limited to the readership of the Uni Times publication - otherwise we wouldn't have been able to offer it at all - All vouchers from the printed publication will be honoured. To get the real voucher just pickup a free copy of Uni Times from any of these locations. We hope all of our customers can appreciate the good faith in which the offer was released, and that neither Grill'd or its loyal customers will win in the long run if we allow digital copies or scans to be honoured for printed offers such as this. We know a lot of our loyal Grill'd fans have received electronic versions of the offer and we apologise for this, but we hope you understand that this was never our intention.

Run For The Kids (and for the burgers!)

Here at Burger Base we love hearing about people who've got off their backsides to make a difference. One such story involves Jon McCluskey, a bloke who arranged a group of friends from all walks of life to participate and raise funds in the 2009 Run For The Kids charity fun run event (www.runforthekids.com.au). Team 100k was born, and last year Jon and Team 100k raised over $37,000 for the event, with all proceeds going directly to the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

This year we've got on board and are supporting Team 100k by helping the guys out to help them reach their fundraising aim of $100,000. A few of us are even signing up for the run! After the race we're going to put on a bit of party for all Team 100k members at our restaurant in Degraves St in the heart of the CBD. Every registered 100k team member will get a burger on us and there'll be a few beers passed around (well deserved we think).

If you're interested in getting involved you can join Team 100k at www.team100k.org. But get in quick, spaces are filling fast!

We're heading Westside!

That's right, we've heard the cries and we're excited to say we're taking Grill'd to Perth.

Mt Lawley has opened up its sunny arms and locals will soon be getting their first taste of Grill'd.

If you have friends & family in the West, we'd love you to pass on the news. You can be the one that said "I told you Grill'd will change your life".

If you're in Perth and new to Grill'd, we'd love to meet you. As a special hello, come down with a mate/date and the second burger will be on the house (you can fight over who goes free. We recommend splitting the bill). Simply sign up HERE before the end of Feb and we'll send you our special Hello voucher just before we open.

We'll be landing in Mt Lawley in early March (on Beaufort St, right near the Astor Theatre). Keep an eye out here and on our official facebook page for more detail.

When it rains, it pours.

No we're not referring to the rain outside Burger Base today, but to the praise for our chips. Last week it was the Melbourne Magazine (see below), this week it was A Current Affair of all places. Grill'd came out on top in a national 'chip taste test' challenge. We're honoured to share the stage with the home made chips from eighty-four-year-old chip cooking veteran Margaret Mathews. If you're interested in the seeing more, you can check it out here. Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

"Are we desperate to go back? Yes."

The February 2010 Age Melbourne Magazine has hit the shelves and features their take on the best chips in Melbourne, including a review on our fine offering. For the Matt Prestons out there, the review of Grill'd chips includes the kind words: "Uniformly excellent with good crunch, a fresh, steamy interior and lots of textural variety". In other words, they think they're pretty damn good, and with a rating of 8 out of 10, this puts us up there with the best around. We're glad you like them. CLICK HERE to check out the article.
